Notice Regarding MOTUS System Issues

Important Notice to All Motor Carriers

October 22, 2026 4 min read Royal Shield Insurance Services

We would like to make our clients aware that the new MOTUS platform continues to experience system issues and unexpected glitches that may impact your operating authority, insurance filings, and account access.

To help minimize potential disruptions, we strongly recommend that all carriers contact their permit agent as soon as possible to verify that:

  • Your DOT number has been successfully claimed in MOTUS.
  • Your company profile has been properly created and linked to the user account associated with your previous FMCSA legacy platform access.
  • All account information is accurate and up to date.
  • Any pending insurance or authority-related filings are being monitored closely.

Common Issues Being Reported

1

DOT Number Claiming Errors

Many carriers are encountering registration issues when first setting up their MOTUS accounts. In some cases, the system does not properly associate the company profile with the carrier's information, preventing the DOT number from being claimed. Users frequently receive messages indicating that the DOT number and EIN are already linked to another profile, even when no duplicate account is known to exist.

2

Insurance Filing Cancellation Glitch

Another common issue involves insurance filings that are successfully submitted by the insurance company but are then automatically canceled by MOTUS at 12:00 a.m. on the policy's effective date. When this occurs, the filing must be reissued, creating additional delays and administrative complications.

Current Status

While FMCSA representatives are responding to inquiries and support requests, the information available to them remains limited due to the many unforeseen challenges the new platform has encountered since its launch. As a result, resolution times and guidance can vary depending on the issue being reported.

Even carriers that have proactively filed insurance documents well in advance to avoid interruptions are still experiencing problems when those filings are replaced during policy renewals.

Based on our experience, the carriers encountering the fewest issues appear to be those that are completely new to the MOTUS platform and did not require migration or integration from the FMCSA's legacy system.

Moving Forward

We remain hopeful that system improvements and updates will continue to be implemented, reducing the number of carriers affected by these ongoing issues. In the meantime, we encourage all clients to stay proactive, regularly monitor their MOTUS accounts, and maintain close communication with their permit agents and insurance providers to address any issues as quickly as possible.

If you have questions regarding your DOT number, authority status, insurance filings, or MOTUS account setup, please contact our office and we will assist you in reviewing your account status.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this transition period.
